Goats sheep and other small livestock often require special consideration when it comes to hay feeders.
Building a hay feeder for goats.
The size of the feeder is suitable for small pens or birthing goat stalls being enough for 1 2 goats.
You need at least one commercial box feeder for every four goats.
Very durable and sturdy.
Cattle rings and standard bunk feeders are too large and cumbersome to be practical for the small livestock farmer.
This is a great goat hay feeder for a large herd of animals and can be used inside or out.
Diy hanging goat hay feeder.
Special hayracks and bunk feeders designed for such creatures are often hard to find and very expensive.
Often one or two goats drive others away from a feeding area so you may want to make hay available in at least two locations in each goat area.
This was one of my first attempts at a hanging feeder.
If your barn layout is different you may have to modify this build to where it ll function on a solid wall.
The simple hay feeder outlined here will feed about 10 goats.
Cost is the price of a panel and a few zip ties.
As mentioned above we chose to attach our hay feeder to the divider in between our goats sleeping quarters and the wall of one of the stalls.
These walls are slats instead of solid.
